Teledyne Rad-icon Imaging, a division of Teledyne DALSA, is the leading provider of high-performance CMOS image sensors and cameras for the digital radiography market worldwide. Our products enable medical practitioners, industrial manufacturers, and scientific researchers to create superior image quality, high resolution, and large active area images based on our CMOS active pixel sensor (APS) technology. Founded in 1997 by Gene Weckler, the company’s mission is to explore new opportunities in x-ray imaging through state-of-the-art CMOS technology. The company’s core technical employees bring over 100 years of professional experience in developing solid state sensors and real-world experience in addressing our customers’ unique requirements in both visible and x-ray imaging applications. Among the 29 patents and innovations held by Rad-icon employees, the most significant contribution is Mr. Weckler’s work on "A Silicon Photodevice to Operate in a Photon Flux Integration Mode" which is the fundamental technology for all solid state sensors used in digital cameras from small point and shoot cameras to the Hubble telescope.

In 2000, the company introduced its first product – the RadEye1 – an x-ray sensor based on CMOS technology designed to replace CCDs, and the first application of this technology was for surgical biopsy x-ray imaging to detect calcifications and tissue irregularities. Since then, Rad-icon introduced the RadEye™ family of high-resolution sensors along with complementary product lines of Shad-o-Box™ and Shad-o-Snap™ x-ray cameras, and in 2008, the company introduced the SkiaGraph™ Very Large Area (VLA) x-ray cameras with active sensing areas of 8"x8" and 8"x10", faster clock rates, lower noise, and higher sensitivity than competing devices on the market. Rad-icon’s products address diverse applications such as industrial inspection, non-destructive testing, medical imaging, electronics inspection, x-ray crystallography, biotechnology imaging, geology and exploration, and food/agriculture inspection. With Rad-icon’s sensors and cameras, our customers are able to implement cost-effective and high-performance digital imaging solutions. In 2008, Rad-icon Imaging Corporation became a division of its parent company – DALSA Corporation of Waterloo, Canada – and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA with integration partners and distributors worldwide.
